Stillwater Schools - Hosted by Phil Rowley
For 2025, we are happy to be offering 2 separate dates for the school:
June 17-22, 2025, 1 spot left
June 23-28, 2025, SOLD OUT
This 5 night 4 1/2 day class will be taught by your host Phil Rowley, Phil is a well known author, fly tying and fly fishing instructor as well as the "Yoda" of stillwater lake fly fishing. Phil has been teaching Stillwater Schools at Stoney Lake Lodge for over a decade and will help with the most challenging opportunities available to today's modern stillwater fly fisherman. The Lodge is an extremely private lodge and will be our home for the duration of the school and you will enjoy Stoney Lake as your own private lake. Situated in the world famous Kamloops rainbow trout region, fish in these waters are notorious for their large size and incredible fighting abilities.
Stillwaters offer a long active season with numerous hatches and presentation challenges. Fish grow big and fat and many find this appeal hard to resist. But the transfer from rivers and streams is often difficult, especially if a prolonged trial and error approach is adopted. Our stillwater school examines the stillwater fly fisher's kit bag, expectations, and an introduction into the diverse food sources. Everything the aspiring stillwater fly fisher needs to be successful in order to build a sound foundation that will last through a lifetime plying stillwaters. Instruction will be broken down into a comfortable mixture of classroom time, personalized casting, fly tying and fly fishing tutorials. You will also spend at least one half day in the boat with Phil of private, one on one, instruction.
For decades the Douglas Lake Ranch has retained a household name in the still-water fly fishing world. Situated in the world famous Kamloops rainbow trout region, fish in these waters are notorious for their incredible fighting abilities. Understanding the importance of managing quality fisheries comes first and its Kamloops rainbow trout to be specific. Stocking and enhancement/management programs take place throughout the ranch to ensure large fish can thrive in these waters.
