Iron Bow Fly Fishing 1 day beginner fly fishing schools are by far our most popular workshops.  With over 25 years of teaching and guiding experience, our instructors love what they do and have introduced thousands of novice anglers to the fundamentals of fly fishing. So whether you are a husband and wife, father and son, friends or just on your own, let us introduce you to the sport of a lifetime.

One Day classes are broken down into a comfortable mixture of classroom time, personalized casting instruction and strategy lectures. With the large amount of information covered during the day, we feel that a low student to teacher ratio is important, making sure all students get personalized attention while in a comfortable relaxed atmosphere.

1 Day Beginner School Topics

Tackle - Understanding your tackle and selection of gear for the right fishing circumstances.

Fly Fishing Knots - Practical fly fishing knots and rigging.

Fly Casting Fundamentals - Loading rod, false casting, roll casting, double haul.

Entomology and Fly Selection - Insect identification and behavior (river and lake) fly selection including dries, nymphs and streamers.

Fly Fishing Strategies - Reading and understanding trout holding water, stalking and approach, as well as other proven tactics.

How To Hook and Land Fish - Learn the intricacies of hooking, fighting, and landing fish as well as proper release techniques.

Location

The School is held on a private spring fed pond just 17 Kms north and west of Cochrane. 

What’s Included

All equipment and flies, as well as a comprehensive school booklet that is yours to keep for future reference and rod fee. (If you have and would like to bring your own equipment we encourage that as well).

A one time 10% off coupon will be given to students at the completion of course. If you so choose to purchase equipment before the class, we will apply the 10% coupon at that time.
